Everyday, farmers and ranchers work hard to produce goods that help sustain our lives. AgCountry Farm Credit Services is joining with agricultural leaders across the Midwest in showing support for locally produced foods. The leaders of agriculture departments in seven states put together a video encouraging consumers to shop local.

As Secretary-designee Randy Romanski of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection put it, “Shopping at your local farmer’s market supports your local agriculture industry.” By buying local, you’re “keeping money you spend on your food closer to your community and strengthening your local and state economy.”

Farmers markets and local food stands have other perks for consumers, too. Minnesota Department of Agriculture Commissioner Thom Peterson says, “You can also have the opportunity to talk to the farmer and get to know practices and things they do to help grow that food.”

The group of leaders joined together to share their appreciation for essential agricultural and food workers, who continued to work throughout the pandemic and are a key piece to the fabric of our neighborhoods and communities.
